Notes from your Larghissimographer:
- Y'all have awesome taste! I've loved discovering new-to-me music through this journey, and re-discovering forgotten favorites.
- The table is sortable by column.
- The playlist is still very much a work in progress!
Count | NewPages | Progress |
---|---|---|
160 | 1-250 | Should have all, if I've missed some please point them out |
72 | 251-422 | Picked up haphazardly; still working through systematically. You can point out missing suggestions if you wish, or wait for it. |
76 | 423+ | I've got a lot of these, but not all from the end; please wait for it. |

1.01 | Only Time | Enya | Quicksilver | ||||
2.16 | Organ²/ASLSP | John Cage | Uzh | It strongly reminds me of a piece of music which will approximately take 639 years to perform. By now the first or second tune are played. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_Slow_as_Possible

3.31 | Dark Side of the Moon (album) | Pink Floyd | muzzle | This has prompted me to listen to Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon again. Thanks Randal!
not available on Spotify; cover by Robbie Krieger
5.07 | Time and Tide Wait for No Man | The High Queens | queueingtheory | I figured that since they appear to be by water (flat bit on the right) it's a play on "time and tide wait for no man".
6.15 | 4'33" | John Cage | webgiant | Its like a visual representation of 4'33", with the forum messages substituting for the concert audience. So its pretty deep.
(yes, I know the runtime is 4:39 - but it's the "Single Version"!)
8.16 | Time (Inception soundtrack) | Hans Zimmer | kaley | It's going to turn into Inception. They'll spend a lifetime building a world from scratch and grow old together. And skip all the sad stuff from the movie.
9.01 | Við spilum endalaust ("We play endlessly") | Sigur Ros | FaroCastiglo | Listening to Sigur Ros while following this, because it just seems so appropriate.
9.06 | Turn! Turn! Turn! | The Byrds | mikrit | There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to embrace and a time to build sand castles. Just wait for it. |
9.14 | Riddles in the Dark | Stone Mountain Crew | syberspot | This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; Gnaws iron, bites steel; Grinds hard stones to meal; Slays king, ruins town, And beats high mountain down. |
9.32 | Castles Made of Sand | The Jimi Hendrix Experience | frizzychicory | Maybe Randall is just a Hendrix fan? And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually
10.28 | 9 Beet Stretch | Lief Inge | meat.paste | This reminds me of the folks who took Beethoven's 9th symphony and electronically stretched it to 24 hours. It is beautiful and maddening. http://www.park.nl/digidivi/9bs.pls [download]

16.37 | Le vent nous portera ("The wind will carry us") | Noir Désir | two_sided_cube | This whole sand castle thing made me think of the video clip for Le Vent Nous Portera, a Noir Désir song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrgcRvBJYBE
19.03 | Castles Made of Sand* | The Jimi Hendrix Experience | scotty2haughty | Jimi Hendrix...
"And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually" Maybe that is what we are waiting for. |
19.04 | Never Gonna Give You Up | Rick Astley | rvloon | The obvious outcome of this outcome would be a simple redirect to a Rick Astley video. *Never* gonna give you up...
19.27 | Minas Tirith/Hope and Memory | Lord of the Rings | manvandmaan | I fear she's building a sand-replica of Minas Tirith! :o If that is the case, we're going to be here for some time...
23.30 | Castles Made of Sand* | The Jimi Hendrix Experience | slowcooked | Thinking of romance, the Hendrix song came to me, on the wings of a dragon-fly:
And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually... |
24.11 | Sandcastles in the Sand | Robin Sparkles (HIMYM) | KroniK907 | I have been watching this since the first or second image... and all along, I kept thinking of this song. I Finally figured out where I had heard it. anyway, wanted to share a song about sandcastles: http://www.hulu.com/watch/17829

26.21 | The Fault in Our Stars | Bloom | Claveluza | ― The Fault in Our Stars, John Green. I thought it was appropiate.
27.39 | Tsunami | Mehdi Moghadam | SadinaSaphrite | Last panel Black Hat Guy rides a tsunami onto the castle, bearing a flag.
30.28 | I Am A Rock | Simon & Garfunkel | KarMann | It almost looks like a reasonable end, with the "punchline" being something about how he's built himself into this sand castle, and now has no idea how to get out of it without destroying it. Perhaps with a moral somewhat similar to Simon & Garfunkel's "I Am A Rock". But that wouldn't have any significant connection with "Time" that I can think of, except perhaps in the sense of "doing time." So I wouldn't expect that to be it.
32.22 | Vicarious | Tool | Corrado | I've been wondering if the point of the comic is about becoming more self aware of the amount of time spent pondering things which are ultimately trivial in our lives and that we have no influence over. Sort of Randall's version of Tool's "Vicarious." I've somewhat resigned myself that there isn't going to be "Oh My God!" ending to this and that the impressive part will be the duration, not the finale (or possibly even the message, if there is one).

36.35 | Castles in the Sky | Ian Van Dahl | peewee_RotA | So we're going to find out at the end that this is a giant Ian Van Dahl reference and the girl's just building castles with this guy.
37.24 | Waiting for Godot | Janina Gavankar | Ardaglash | "Long time listener, first time caller"... I'm surprised that no one has yet brought up 'Waiting for Godot'. It was one of the first things I thought of when I saw the alt-text, and as Time has elapsed and this thread has passed through various stages of absurd, morbid, off-topic, lighthearted, and so forth, I feel like Randall has constructed a piece of performance art with all of us included as integral players.
41.2 | King of My Castle | Wamdue Project | Wooloomooloo | ...Am I the only one who keeps hearing "must be a reason why I'm king of my castle" (from the Wamdue Project) looping in my head when I'm looking at "Time" lately...? Surely not? Well, not anymore, anyway... )
43.08 | 4'33"* | John Cage | ctdonath | As for the XKCD audience coming up with many meanings, well, it's Randall's version of 4'33".
43.16 | 4'33"* | John Cage | Editer | 4'33" is 273 seconds long. Maybe this will go on for exactly 273 frames... that would be obscure but if Randall's original storyboarding landed it in that neighborhood he might adjust to hit it exactly...
44.08 | The World is Just Awesome | Discovery Channel | Platonix |
BOOM DE YADA BOOM DE YADA BOOM DE YADA BOOM DE YADA... ...I just registered so I could post that joke. I lead a sad existence. |

46.05 | Till The End of Time | Perry Como | peewee_RotA | Latest frame has this song stuck in my head

46.10 | Life's a Beach | Touch & Go | Wooloomooloo | As a theme song for "Time", I see your Perry Como and raise with a Touch and go ("life's a beach") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryalMzJhmO8
46.40 | Time | Hootie & the Blowfish | lovepirate | For me, the song I've had stuck in my head this whole time is "Time" by Hootie and the Blowfish.
Time, Why you punish me? Like a wave crashing into the shore, you wash away my dreams. Time, Why you walk away? Like a friend with somewhere to go, you left me cryin' Can you teach me 'bout tomorrow and all the pain and sorrow, Runnin' free? Cause tomorrow's just another day, and I don't believe in time. |
47.02 | As Time Goes By | Dooley Wilson | peewee_RotA | It's still the same old story

48.09 | Time in a Bottle | Jim Croce | Dracomax | If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do Is to save every day Till Eternity passes away Just to spend them with you... |
48.19 | Land of Oden | Barry & Barry | Mikeski | ...so, when does the little bird show up to sharpen its beak?
48.26 | Castles Made of Sand* | The Jimi Hendrix Experience | wingless | I keep thinking of the Hendrix song, "Castles made of sand." Perhaps this castle will fall into the sea, eventually...
48.29 | Sandcastles in the Sand* | Robin Sparkles (HIMYM) | inhalvast | But now I'm building...
Sandcastles in the sand (Sandcastles in the sand) Thought I could fly when you held my hand (Thought I could fly) Eternity turns to black and white It was the greatest week and a half of my life |

73.04 | Time* | Pink Floyd | BrianX | Every half-hour getting shorter, never seem to run out of time
Sandcastles either come to naught or eighty pages of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the fannish way Time still ticks but the song is over I've got nothing more to say |

74.29 | Castles of Sand | Slightly Stoopid | suffer-cait | ||||
74.29 | Sandcastles in the Sand* | Robin Sparkles (HIMYM) | suffer-cait | ||||
74.35 | And the Tide Rushes In | The Moody Blues | NotThatHatGuy | On day one, when there was a lot of dark speculation here, I kept hearing the Moody Blues "And the Tide Rushes In". Which, being an old geek, I would rank as number two just after Hendrix.
75.07 | Land of Oden* | Barry & Barry | kenmelken | I'm reminded by this whole experience of the What-if post about Twitter a few weeks back, and the quote he used:
High up in the North in the land called Svithjod, there stands a rock. It is a hundred miles high and a hundred miles wide. Once every thousand years a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. When the rock has thus been worn away, then a single day of eternity will have gone by. Knowing what Randall has shown himself capable of in the past, and the fact that the slow delivery allows him to still be creating additional pix for a long time, I'd say the duration of this little venture could be on the order of months, or even years. |
75.32 | Give Me That Old Time Religion | traditional | KarMann | Give me that old Time religion,
Give me that old Time religion, Give me that old Time religion, It's good enough for me! |

80.12 | Time | David Bowie | Plutarch | Time - He's waiting in the wings
He speaks of senseless things His script is you and me, boys (Bowie) |
82.39 | Give Me That Old Time Religion* | traditional | Eoink | I've had a look back at the songs and didn't spot this one, although it's quite possible that I missed it. May I humbly suggest a hymn for the religion:
Give me that old Time religion, Give me that old Time religion, Give me that old Time religion, It's good enough for me! |
83.23 | Counting Out Time | Genesis | The Owl | If this is going to be one of the hymns, can I suggest Counting Out Time by Genesis as another?
I'm counting out time, Got the whole thing down by numbers, All those numbers! Give me guidance! Oh Lord I need that now. |
85.33 | Time | Tom Waits | Envelope Generator | ||||
91.12 | The Unanswered Question | Charles Ives | communisteggplant | Someone referenced Cage's 4' 33" earlier...a more appropriate art music reference to the comic and our responses might be Ives' The Unanswered Question. The piece has three layers- a repeating, slow string pattern meant to evoke the passage of time, a trumpet blast invoking the Unanswered Question (i.e., "what does it all mean?"), and a bunch of flutes offering scurrying responses that trip over one another. The strings are the comic, the trumpet is our search for meaning, and the flutes are the wondrous (Ives would say silly, but I disagree) cacophony of our attempts to understand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbArUJBRRJ0

106.40 | Time Warp | Rocky Horror Picture Show | mittfh | Don't you mean the image will pan slightly to the left (a step), then jerk to the right (a jump)... I can't think of a suitable metaphor for hands / hips / knees. Then the image will zoom in and out several times (pelvic thrust)...

114.36 | Soliloquy For Lilith | Nurse With Wound | WolfieMario | ...I think I'll just go back to figuring out how Randall got this to keep playing in my room even after I unplugged my speakers and bashed them in with an iron pipe. Some of these HTML5 features feel rather unnecessary.

118.11 | Auguries of Innocence (poem) | William Blake | HAL9000 | I still prefer the original:
To see a world in a grain of sand And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Isn't that what we're doing? Well, almost, at least. Seeing the world in a sandcastle, and eternity in 30 minutes. |

307.29 | When the River Meets the Sea | John Denver | ella ventic | Is anyone else singing now? From the best Christmas album of all time:
When the mountain touches the valley All the clouds are taught to fly As our souls will leave this land most peacefully Though our minds be filled with questions In our hearts we'll understand When the river meets the sea Muppets and John Denver, anyone? (Also Emmet Otter.) I don't think the song has got much to do with the comic, taking as it does a decidedly pro-soul and -afterlife stance, but thanks anyway Randall for reminding me of it! (I may not agree with the song but it is darn beautiful anyway.) But this life will find a purpose And in time we'll understand |

Time, flowing like a river Time, beckoning me... |
359.18 | Time* | Pink Floyd | VeloCityGirl | The other song I haven't seen posted is more depressing, though it is one of my all time faves: From DSOTM, Lyrics by Roger Waters: Time
359.18 | Time* | The Alan Parsons Project | VeloCityGirl | Show of hands, who is old enough to remember when this song came out and have an emotional memory attached to it? Besides me, I mean? It came out when I was 13, and I remember listening to it on a train from Thurso to London as we were moving back to the States. *sigh* Almost posted it yesterday.
359.20 | Time* | The Alan Parsons Project | Eliram | I will take the opportunity, however, to point out that the lyrics of Alan Parsons Project's "Time" are very similar to TOTC. Time, flowing like a river (River song?) Who knows when we shall meet again (Frame 52's Later / Bye dialogue) If ever (We never know how long they'll be gone) The rivers flows to the sea, there are tides, friends, love... Everything except sandcastles. Dammit! |
359.24 | Time and the River | Nat King Cole | Eliram | On another note, I found another song about time, river etc. TIME AND THE RIVER - NAT KING COLE
359.33 | Mr Time | Alan Parsons | Publius10 | The Alan Parsons one came out a dozen years before I was born - doesn't mean I have no emotional attachment to it - grew up listening to this stuff, still one of my favorite bands. Pink Floyd too, that one still gets to me every time.
I've gotta say though, I recently discovered this one and it might be my favorite AP song now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySZg-m8QTPc Stealing a moment from Mr. Time He rocks in his chair like a shiny dime... |
361.06 | Days Are Numbers (The Traveller) | The Alan Parsons Project | Mikeski | APP? I think "Days are Numbers (The Traveller)" works better. Second verse & chorus:
The traveller awaits the morning tide/He doesn't know what's on the other side/But something deep inside of him/Keeps telling him to go/He hasn't found a reason to say no The traveller is only passing through/He cannot understand your point of view/Abandoning reality, unsure of what he'll find/The traveller in me is close behind Days are numbers/Watch the stars/We can only see so far/Someday, you'll know where you are |

363.30 | Rocky Mountain High | John Denver | BlitzGirl | Also, I glimpsed some John Denver, which inspired me thus:

375.01 | Lions | Dire Straits | partingLance | mscha, I enjoy all your "---ONG" preludes/introductory titles immensely, but this one in particular, for some reason. I thought immediately of "Church bell clanging on, just Trying to get a crowd for Evensong..." which is, I suppose, a song about Time. (Anyone get the reference -- without googling, I mean?) |
375.01 | Todo Cambia | Mercedes Sosa | partingLance | Many Outside distractions have kept me away too, but inspired as always by BlitzGirl, I determined to catch up on the needle-pulled thing. The chief distraction had to do with Time, as they understand it on the Outside. To be specific, there was a death in the fambly1. As another old song has it, cambia, todo cambia, but I couldn't help missing the apparent, if possibly illusory, simplicity of the One True Comic.
Still, all said and done, the First and Greatest Commandment has been helpful. I will continue to Wait For It.

375.17 | The Waiting | Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers | lmjb1964 | Well, as Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part...

375.19 | Quatour pour la fin du temps: Louange à l'Éternité de Jésus | Olivier Messiaen | Kazza3 | ||||
375.19 | The Undercover Man | Van Der Graaf Generator | Kazza3 | If I may, The Undercover Man- Van der Graaf Generator has some strangely relevant lines:
When the Madness comes, let it flood on down and over me sweetly, Let it drown the parts of me, weak and blessed and damned Let it slake my life, let it take my soul and living completely Let It be who I am. There may not be Time for us all to run in tandem together, The horizon calls with its parallel lines It may not be right for you to have and hold in one way forever, And yet you still have Time, you still have Time. |
375.19 | Perpetual Change | Yes | Kazza3 | And for the loopists, maybe this: Perpetual Change - Yes
377.18 | The Tide is High | Blondie | StratPlayer | The tide keeps rising (albeit MUCH more slowly), and the original uber-eroded castle tower keeps hanging on, defying logic and pixel-gravity...
So of course, this is the Time for another song reference, just to add more work for our mixoligist! I'm picturing Megan singing to herself: "The tide is high but I'm holding on I'm gonna be your number one I'm not the kind of girl who gives up just like that Oh, no" |

391.16 | Grain of Sand | Monty Harper | Angelastic | Another relevant song just came up on my iPod: Grain of Sand by Monty Harper

396.27 | Ding-A-Dong | Teach In | manvandmaan | When you're feeling all right. Everything is up tight. Try to sing a song that goes Ding-Ding-DONG
from Ding-a-dong by Teach in Glad I was the first! That song has been stuck in my head ever since the whole '...ONG' thing begun! |
399.20 | Ozymandias | Chris Proctor | Dracomax | It's symbolic of the inevitability of time, and how sad it is that even our greatest works must fall. Reminds me of this:
I met a traveller from an antique land |
401.24 | Comatose* | Ayreon | Flado | Caught up again - just in time for going comatose (Ayreon again) Keep the fort castles, y'all, you hear me!
401.25 | Time and the Tide | Tora Tora | thirds | "Something is adding water to the sea"
So, it's actually just water. sad-trombone. Perhaps it's just polluted water, being fed by a local factory of some type. If the sea really is "big", then tidal forces are almost the only possible culprit for such a water level rise. But, given how clueless these two are, maybe they're misjudging the size of the sea. Is this simply a weird play on the "Time and tide wait for no man" phrase? |

413.27 | Wait For You | The Mountain Goats | Goggalor | So I was listening through my collection of EPs by the Mountain Goats and found this gem of a song:

423.21 | The Edge of Night (Pippin's Song) | Howard Shore | tastony | I am reminded of "Pippin's Song" from LOTR, which seems to fit the mood here now (with a few tweaks):

432.24 | War Requiem: x. Dies Irae - Confutatis maledictis | Benjamin Britten | lmjb1964 | I've been rehearsing Britten's War Requiem all week, the mood of which fits pretty well with the mood on this thread lately. I'm playing timpani, and I have a lot of tuning changes in the piece. When this happens, I write a note at the top of the page showing which drum is tuned to whcih note, so I can keep track. At rehearsal last night, I realized I miss one, and started writing the pitches at the top of the page--F, A, D and E. Then I realized I had written FADE. It's like I'm being haunted by Time. It kinda freaked me out.

433.01 | The Sound of Silence (Live 2011) | Simon & Garfunkel | higgs-boson | I have no mixed feelings. In fact, my feelings are unusally clear, but, as usual, I'm not the kind of guy who's good at telling about feelings. At the moment, this resembles pretty much of it.
I will wait for Time to end or our dear Blitzgirl to arrive in the needle-pulled-thing present, whatever will happen last. But this is my good-bye, anyway. It will have been a good Time. Thank you, Randall. And thank you, all. |

433.08 | Losing Time/Grand Finale | Dream Theater | Lyoug | The main reason for my de-lurking is that while I was reading CatHectic's asking for suggestions, I remembered this song from Dream Theater called "Losing Time", and after reading its lyrics I couldn't help but post it here:
Losing Time |
433.14 | It's The End of The World As We Know It* | REM | mittfh | A track that hasn't ended up on the Spotify list yet: REM's "It's the end of the world as we know it (I feel fine)"
433.14 | Doctorin' the Tardis | The Timelords | mittfh | Then to represent The Book of Aubron (which of course allows you to travel backwards in time as well as forwards), you've got to have at least one version of the Doctor Who Theme - maybe even a completely bonkers mash-up deliberately designed to achieve Number 1 (it worked) - Doctorin' The Tardis.
433.14 | What'll I Do | Johnny Mathis | mittfh | For when it's all over, What'll I do, when you, are far, away, and I, am blue, what'll I do?
433.14 | What'll I Do | Chet Baker | mittfh | For when it's all over, What'll I do, when you, are far, away, and I, am blue, what'll I do?
433.14 | Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partirò) | Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman | mittfh | Alternatively, Time to say Goodbye (made famous by Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli).
433.14 | Castle on a Cloud | Les Misérables | mittfh | Meanwhile, we've several versions of Castles in the Sand, but how about a Castle in a Cloud (Les Mis)?
433.18 | Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye | Simply Red | mscha | This one on the list yet?
Why Randall above us, who must be in the know. |
433.18 | Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye | Ella Fitzgerald | mscha | This one on the list yet?
Why Randall above us, who must be in the know. |
433.31 | The Mists of Time | John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers | Hertzog | Have I overlooked it, or has no mentioned that we may be seeing "the mists of Time"?
433.39 | Once In a Lifetime | Talking Heads | Clix | One for the Spotified Play List. If it has been mentioned, my search skills need improving. I was reviewing the book of Aubronwood before I coma'ed last night. Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime" was on loop in my head.
Water dissolving and water removing There is water at the bottom of the ocean Remove the water, carry the water Remove the water from the bottom of the ocean ... Time isn't holding us, time isn't after us Time isn't holding us, time doesn't hold you back Time isn't holding us, time isn't after us Time isn't holding us... |
435.28 | Time | Wintersun | yappobiscuits | Long time lurker and follower of the OTC since the beginning... registered and broke my lurking streak purely because I felt it would be wrong given the current events of Time (and the fact a playlist is being put together) for someone not to link to the magnificent song "Time" by Finnish metal legends Wintersun. However as a newbie I can't post links, but I strongly suggest you look it up...
TIME! FADES AWAY! When time fades away And I'll never be the same... Wintersun clearly prophecised the One True Comic... |
435.28 | When Time Fades Away | Wintersun | yappobiscuits | ||||
436.05 | Question | The Moody Blues | jjjdavidson | A song that's kept coming to my mind every time one or both of them left the beach, but that I never brought up because it doesn't really mention Time, is seeming more appropriate now with the fade to gray (and all the speculation about dreaming):
Between the silence of the mountains, And the crashing of the sea, There lies a land I once lived in, And she's waiting there for me, But in the grey of the morning, My mind becomes confused, Between the dead and the sleeping, And the road that I must choose. Moody Blues, "Question"
436.21 | Deep Purple | Nino Tempo & April Stevens | htom | This grey sometimes has a purple tint (not actually there, an effect from other images on my screen) but it made me think of Nino Tempo and April Stevens, "Deep Purple". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1MWOdRUrb8 [Written in 1934 as a piano composition - lyrics added in 1939]
When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls And the stars begin to twinkle in the night In the mist of a memory you wander on back to me Breathing my name with a sigh... |
436.24 | On an Unknown Beach | Amanda Palmer | katakombe | since we are talking fitting music, how about
no mention of sandcastles but the video still fits i think
437.02 | Nowadays | Kander and Ebb | fhorn | "Nowadays," from Chicago (Kander and Ebb)
[...] But nothing stays In fifty years or so It's gonna change, you know But, oh, it's heaven Nowadays |
version by John Kander, Gwen Verdon
437.08 | Towers | Bon Iver | Goggalor | Another suggestion for the soundtrack of Time. Towers by Bon Iver. It might be a bit of a stretch, but it's a beautiful song and it's about equating love with an object (such as a tower), but at the end of the day everything will fall apart and you have to move on.
437.28 | Old Friends | Simon & Garfunkel | pelrigg | Perhaps I could mention a song to go with the "Fade-out"???? (It goes with my OF** status) --- Simon & Garfunkel: "Old Friends" ---
...Can you imagine us |
437.28 | Bookends Theme | Simon & Garfunkel | pelrigg | Actually, thinking about it, after rummaging through the lyrics, pretty much the whole "Bookends" album (okay: disc) fits in with the Time motif: "Bookends Theme"; "Overs"; "Fakin' It"; "A Hazy Shade Of Winter" (excuse please there's something in my eye and I need to put something on the jukebox)
437.28 | Overs | Simon & Garfunkel | pelrigg | ||||
437.28 | Fakin' It | Simon & Garfunkel | pelrigg | ||||
437.28 | A Hazy Shade Of Winter* | Simon & Garfunkel | pelrigg | ||||
444.39 | Fade to White | Blaqk Audio | Red Hal | ||||
445.26 | Half Remembered Dream (Inception soundtrack) | Hans Zimmer | AluisioASG | not available on Spotify
446.38 | Rainbow Connection | The Muppets | rvloon | You are definitely more eloquent than I was in my previous post. On the other hand, it does sound like the long lost verse of Kermit the Frog's Rainbow connection: One day we'll find IT That OTC connection The Readers, the Milliners, the Graphers, the Poets, the Lurkers, the Musicians, the Geologists, the Historians, the Linguists, the Imagicians, the Clergy, the Knights, the Archivists and the Whatnot and me All of us under IT's spell you know that IT is probably magic Cheers, Ronald |
447.29 | Are We There Yet? | Trout Fishing in America | jjjdavidson | A few more song suggestions while we Wait, in case no one's mentioned them:
"Not Fade Away" - Buddy Holly (already mentioned, I think) "Are We There Yet?" - Trout Fishing in America "Shades of Gray" - Billy Joel |
447.29 | Happy That You're Here | Trout Fishing in America | jjjdavidson | and for Blitzgirl:
We love it that you love it that you're here. Love it, love it, love it, love it that you love it to be here. If you love to be here, say I love it! (Lyle Lovett) I don't believe you, that sounded insincere. It could be worse, you know, you could have a fever. It could be much worse, you could throw up. Or even worse than that, you could throw up in your hat. You might as well love it that you're here. "Happy That You're Here" - Trout Fishing in America |
447.29 | Not Fade Away | Buddy Holly | jjjdavidson | ||||
447.29 | Shades of Grey | Billy Joel | jjjdavidson | ||||
447.33 | White Christmas | Bing Crosby | BlitzGirl | White Newpix
(to the tune of White Christmas) I'm staring at a white Newpix Not like the ones I used to know Made my sad eyes glisten And Waiters listen To hear the DONG and watch the show I'm staring at a white Newpix With every PresentPost I write May your thoughts stay merry and bright And may Time |
447.34 | Rainbow Connection | Weezer, Hayley Williams | jjjdavidson | And that reminded me of my favorite lyric from the movie, which seems oddly appropriate to this thread: There's not a word yet For old friends who've just met... |
448.03 | Overs* | Simon & Garfunkel | pelrigg | Still thinking Simon & Garfunkle : Old Friends in the music dept.
Also: Overs I'll Still wait.... |

450.18 | A Whiter Shade of Pale | Procul Harum | Sciscitor | Maybe we already got it: Procul Harum, A Whiter Shade of Pale
450.28 | The Longest Time | Billy Joel | fhorn | I know it's been quoted previously but I can't stop hearing Billy Joel:
I don't care what consequence it brings I have been a fool for lesser things |
451.07 | Black and White | Three Dog Night | StratPlayer | And so it must relate to a song. How 'bout a paraphrase of Black and White (for you olde pharts):
"The sea is black, The sky is white; Together we Wait to see the light. A pixel's black, A pixel's white; Together they form a beautiful sight... A beautiful sight." |
451.11 | Black or White | Michael Jackson | mscha | BlitzGirl wrote: I may indeed have to do a black-and-white song, though the choices are limited. Hmm...Michael Jackson's “Black or White” ... from the album “This is It”?
452.14 | Black and White | The dB's | bnlband44 | Long time lurker on this thread. First comment. I hadn't been following every newpix but checked in periodically and happened to catch the last frame before fade-out. Now I am hooked again.
Had to throw another Black and White song in the mix. The dBs - Black and White |
452.16 | Where Are We Going? | Marvin Gaye | StratPlayer | So Megan and Cueball are out walking... Where to? Coming from the beach, or going to it?
So Where Are We Going? "Tell me, where are we going? Oh, what's the future showin'? Oh, where are we headed? With all that's goin' on where are we gettin'? [...] |
452.28 | Both Sides Now | Joni Mitchell | BlitzGirl | Both Sides, Now

452.33 | Ingenue | Atoms For Peace | Valarya | And I've been thinking of this song for many many NewPages now.

455.22 | For Whom the Bell Tolls | Metallica | SPACKlick | Make castles on the hill in the early day
Constant chill deep inside Planting flag, on they run through the endless gray On they fight, for they are right, yes, but who's to say? For a hill, men would kill. Why? They do not know LaPetite tests their pride Men of five, still alive after fading glow Gone insane from the pain that they surely know For whom NewPix toll Time marches ong… Been waiting ages to use this one. |

456.32 | Black and White* | Three Dog Night | lmjb1964 | (To the tune of Black and White by Three Dog Night.) In the third line, I have an extra couple of syllables. It bugs me, but not enough to change it.
The ground is black. The sky is white And Megan and Cueball walk from left to right. I'm glad there's black along with white To have it all fade just wasn't right It just wasn't right. And now at least, we plainly see That Time goes on for you and me |

"Walk Through The Encryption" (To the Tune of "Walk Like an Egyptian" by the Bangles)
464.04 | Back in Black | AC/DC | StratPlayer | I just thought of what would have been the perfect song to commemorate the moment when the OTC re-emerged from the Fading:
"Back in Black" (and, of course, sung to the tune of "Back in Black" by AC/DC) Back in black, and it's a fact! It's been too long, and I'm glad it's back! M & C are loose, and the background's been reduced; Maybe the castle's under semencoffeejuice? |

But often one hears nothing when one listens for the first time to a piece of music that is at all complicated. And yet when, later on, this sonata had been played to me two or three times I found that I knew it perfectly well. And so it is not wrong to speak of hearing a thing for the first time. If one had indeed, as one supposes, received no impression from the first hearing, the second, the third would be equally “first hearings” and there would be no reason why one should understand it any better after the tenth. Probably what is wanting, the first time, is not comprehension, but memory. For our memory, relatively to the complexity of the impressions which it has to face while we are listening, is infinitesimal, as brief as the memory of a man who in his sleep thinks of a thousand things and at once forgets them, or as that of a man in his second childhood who cannot recall a minute afterwards what one has just said to him. -- Proust, In Search of Lost Time (volume II, Within a Budding Grove)
